Last weekend was of course the one weekend the entire film industry is waiting for until Cannes comes around, and that was Oscar weekend.

As expected The Artist swept the board, but it’s interesting to notice that The Descendants has dropped from Number 11 to Number 15, The Artist has slipped from the Number 12 to Number 13.

Wanderlust had a weak debut though kicking off its opening weekend at Number 8. Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd can definitely do comedies, and Aniston has proven herself more than capable when it comes to a leading comedy role, but yours truly thinks this project might end up being a slow burner with audiences…

Don’t forget the new action comedy from McG starring Chris Pine and Reese Witherspoon called This Means War which is holding steady at Number 7.

Journey 2: The Mysterious has actually gone up a notch and is now sitting at Number 3 which firmly proves that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is able to hold his own at the box office.

Interestingly, “Tyler Perry’s Good Deeds” which has just opened at Number 2 is proving that comedies really are one of the most popular genres that audiences crave.
