Box Office Results for Comedies: Monday 23 January 2012

Hi Boys and Girls!

It’s Monday again and it’s time to find out what’s been sizzling and what’s been cooling over the weekend box office…..!

Which comedies have people been watching over the weekend?

Which comedies have people been watching over the weekend?

Number 13

Alvin and the Chipmunks

Alvin Leading the Charge at the Box Office!

Alvin Leading the Charge at the Box Office!

The gang may have slipped out of the Top 10 (they were Number 8 last week), but they’re still clinging on for their dear lives and aren’t far behind at Number 13. There’s still life in those Chipmunks….keep at it chaps!

Number 14

We Bought A Zoo

Matt Damon is no longer Jason Bourne....but plays Benjamin Mee opposite Scarlett Johansson in Cameron Crowe's new flick...!

Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson’s latest film has been slipping as well, sitting at number 14 after just missing out on the Top 10 last week. Yet considering it made as much money on the same weekend as Alvin and the Chipmunks on almost the same number of screens, Fox executives must be glad they can release family crowd pleasers alongside more indie fare and still make a buck.

Number 16

The Descendants

The film made as much box office as Alvin and the Chipmunks on a quarter of the screens...love it....!

The film made as much box office as Alvin and the Chipmunks on a quarter of the screens...love it....!

Even though our dear George Clooney more than deservedly won a Golden Globe for Best Drama Actor, there were enough hilarious moments in Alexander Payne’s brilliant new film The Descendants that it can just about be included in the Comedy Category.

Although the Number 16 slot may not seem like much, considering that it’s being released on just over 500 screens, it has made almost as much as Alvin and the Chipmunks in one single weekend, but Alvin was released over 2,000 screens.

Such is the power of Scrumptious George…love it!

Number 17

The Artist

The Artist is just waiting for a boost from the Oscar campaign....!
The Artist is just waiting for a boost from the Oscar campaign….!

Winning award after award, The Artist is having a brilliant run and is the frontrunner for the Oscars in February. Still holding steady in the Top 20, this film is guaranteed to be getting a box office boost during the Oscar campaign.
